male swim wear: when i was thin, as a regular aussie male i wore the stock-standard speedo briefs, which were functional and didn't impede movement or create drag while in the water. when i bloated out, briefs really didn't feel like the proper thing to be wearing amongst other people any more. on the recommendation of a friend i purchased a pair of the trendy baggy swim shorts, which had pockets, tabs, sticking out string bits, and lots of velcro.
male swim wear: nowadays, i wear a speedo if i'm swimming laps but i would never lounge around the pool or go to the beach without a pair of shorts (short trousers to those in the uk) over it. if i see an adult male at the beach in a speedo, i would guess that he's either european, south american, gay, or not bothered by what other idiots like me think about him. that's just the style here in the us.
male swim wear: it might surprise you to know that gender roles were never quite as rigid as you might want to believe. just because a woman might like to go hunting is no reason to assume she's also lesbian and she dang sure wouldn't automatically marry another woman. same is true for other occupations. in fact, these truly rigid gender roles are more of white origin than indian origin. as for male and female attire, that depends on the tribe too. i can honestly say that our traditional swim wear was not interchangeable between the sexes
male swim wear: i find it interesting, by the way, that women are targeted with this sort of labeling more than men. i don't know the orthodox standards for men, but i know muslim men are required to be covered from the waist to the knees and do not wear ties; i don't hear them referring to men who wear typical western clothing -- say, a "normal" swimsuit or shorts -- as being slutty (or some male equivalent). i suppose it's part of the general societal double standard; i doubt that many folks even know that in most places where women are required to dress more conservatively, men are, too. we are certainly exposed to less public information about what those differences are.
male swim wear: we have a wide range of skills represented here. just for comparison, wear i'm a 47 year old male. i seldom swim my miles continuously (i usually swim sets of 100s and 200s), but wouldn't have any trouble doing your workout in about 27 minutes. larry (our beloved 56 year old doctor) might clock something closer to your time. terry (similar age) on the other hand could easily beat me.
