girls swimwear: "clownish" is certainly the word! and of course, it results from the ghetto fashions which have taken over middle class america in the last 15 years. once it was only poor boys, who had to wear dad's hand-me-down clothes, who walked around in pants 10 sizes too large. now, it's the fashion to have the crotch of the pants swinging around knee level and the pockets just above the knees with a huge pair of boxer shorts blossoming out above the waist. what's really clownish is when the hem of the pant leg is just below the knees. but.... it carries over to swimwear. i swim laps at a southern california university pool, and there are undergraduates who swim in what can only be called drag suits - swimwear that is perfectly suited to generate hydrodynamic drag. of course, these same students never take their suits off in the shower room. thank goodness the style hasn't extended to girls' swimwear, although in the late 80s it looked like it was headed toward thongs and toplessness in the pool. where did it all go wrong? :-)
girls swimwear: hmm...looking at the poster a lady friend gave me... well, in that pic it would be ayeka; ryoko's isn't terribly flattering, sasami is a child for goodness sake, and we really don't see that much of the other girls's swimwear.
girls swimwear: if you pay attention, you'll notice other oddities, like the girls putting on what looks to today's eyes like cocktail dresses in order to leave the house on an urgent errand, or veronica's swim cap making her look like she has purple hair, or betty being outright mean in order to break up archie and veronica's relationship. the sheer variety of period swimwear illustrated is fun in itself.
girls swimwear: just about half the girls have been eliminated now. so far the girls have had bikini waxes (lightning-quick hair removal), posed outdoors with swimwear in below freezing weather, and posed with snakes, among other things. elyse probably isn't aware of how well she has done on the various evaluations, but the next episode will deal with her major problem (her thinness).
girls swimwear: yes, that is what i am saying. the swimsuit issue is and always has been, in my case, a playboy-like magazine and yes indeed swimwear does hide just a bit but the mind can sure work to fill in the blanks. in fact, the 20's swimsuit was exciting to men back in those days too.... why, i saw a lady bend over in a pants suit the other day that almost done me in, so its not limited to swimwear (girls take note).
