d swim wear: the first thing you should do is observe what the boys are wearing. the last time i was in canada, it was fairly common for boys to wear swim briefs (in fact, i remember a boy in a hotel getting on the elevator to ride down to the hotel pool wearing nothing but his swim briefs, which i've never seen happen in the u.s.). but perhaps that's changed, or perhaps it depends on where in canada you are. if at least some of the boys are wearing briefs, it probably won't create a sensation if you wear them, too.
d swim wear: another issue is whether you should only wear your briefs when you are in the water, and put on shorts whenever you are out of the water (e.g., giving swim instruction from the side of the pool). again, i'd suggest observing what the boys do.
d swim wear: there may also be an argument for wearing your briefs when you are in the water, even if none of the boys are doing this, if the youth organization you are working with doesn't object. one of the things boys should learn when they're getting stroke training, imo, is that serious swimmers wear competitive swimwear. if a boy notices that the adult leaders who are really into swimming wear competitive swimwear, he's likely to associate competitive swimwear with serious swimming and feel a lot more comfortable wearing it when/if he gets serious about swimming.
d swim wear: i had bought some 100% nylon suits, ummm, lesses - i'm pretty sure it was at '96 trials (the pool in motreal had a shop). i lost one, another had the stitching go ~ two years ago. i still wear the third though it's faded nearly to white & requires another suit. unfortunately living in small town alberta the opportunites to buy (non mail order) quality swim wear are limited. i'd rather like to get a replacement, i think the current suit done it's due ;p
d swim wear: i did go naked in the tub. i was self concious for about 10 minutes. you could easily wear a swim suit top, or a sports bra but i would have hated it being wet when i was not in the tub and i would not have wanted to change it during the second half of labor - ymmv - you could have a stash of sports bras and just change them each time you got out. if so i'd get the kind with clasps so someone could help. i just put the robes/gowns on when i got out. a nurse recommended laying a wet towel across my breast and belly saying sometimes it helped move things along. it actually did although it might have been coincidence. it was a nice way to stay covered in the tub and yet be able to get out and get dry clothes on.
