custom swim wear: providing free suits at big meets is really not a solution. not only are they very expensive, about $300 each, they *must* be custom fitted to work well. even worse, they loosen up and develop folds and ridges after a few swims, which actually increase drag and slow you down. thorpe and other big names tend to wear theirs only once. swim parents tend to be affluent, but even they don't want to shell out that sort of cost over and over just to keep junior up to speed with the little trump boy.
custom swim wear: a century ago it was considered indecent to swim or play tennis in clothing suited to those avocations. until quite recently it was verboten for a tennis player to wear a color other than white. why? no reason. customs (especially those that are observed for no reason) change.
custom swim wear: the first couple of wetsuits i was were rubber and baggy as hell. it looked more like an extension of my old chest waders than something i'd want to wear in the water. i had trouble figuring out how anybody would actually swim in one. michael's shell suit was much different. as near as i can tell, it was spacious enough without being baggy anywhere. i assume that means it was custom.
custom swim wear: i have been looking around the net and have found a few companies that make custom swim platforms. prices range from $900 to well over $3000. i would love an extended platform but would settle for one 18 inches deep. plus, if i got an extended platform the boat would stick to far out of my slip. new is probably out of the question right now, to much other stuff i want to wear buy. i have a local shop trying to locate a used one for me. with all the boat graveyards around here there has to be something in decent shape that will fit.
custom swim wear: you could try the over-the-counter version of ear plugs as sold in drug stores. if this is something you plan to do often, or if otitis is a serious problem, i would recommend investing in a pair of custom swim plugs. these are the same type that we recommend for kids with tubes in their ears. wear look for a licensed, certified audiologist to shoot impressions for you. should run you about $50.00 (northeast us price), but will last you several years with proper care. wear
