activewear swim wear: yes and no..... it's not really good enough if the fabric only stretches the one way unless it is being used for a tee or such. for active wear you need to have fabric that stretches both crosswise and lengthwise. that is why there is another line on most patterns we call the gds (greatest degree of stretch). i never measure the stretch with a ruler because i work so often with activewear that i know be a quick tug how well the fabric will work and if it will need assisting gussets (when the secondary stretch is not substantial enough for the task at hand!). if you will be doing much work with lycras, etc., i would recommend that you get the kwik sew book "sewing swim and active wear" - a good investment since it also has master patterns included.
